| Iowa Initiative for College Mathematics and Statistics Education |
This initiative is primarily concerned with student
transitions from high school to community college to
Regents universities. Currently a large number of students
interested in STEM fields have difficulty when they arrive
at ISU and take calculus as part of the requirements for
their major. This initiative intends to address the
transitions, from a multi-pronged approach, including an
information system to track student data from high school
to community college to their ISU mathematics courses, and
also downstream courses in STEM fields. Another part of
the initiative addresses issues in teacher education and a
third area addresses the way calculus is taught. The
information system is already underway.
