| St. Catherines Island Sea Turtle Program |
This Program integrates "Conservation, Research, and Education" through
hands-on conservation of loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta Linneaus).
Two hundred seven school-teacher-interns of 230 sea turtle interns, have
completed the St. Catherines curriculum and, because of compounding
effects of teaching annual cohorts of students, have impacted over 220,531
school children in Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Dakota, and
Germany. The program released 126,601 loggerhead hatchlings into the
Atlantic from 2093 nests conserved during 18 years, presented 61 talks,
published 20 papers, constructed 5 museum exhibits, and produced 11
derivative content-rich Internet web sites.
