Biotechnology Program  The goal of this project is to increase the Biotechnology options available for students attending Kirkwood Community College. Five options will be available to students: 1) The Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Biotechnology would be for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to continue their studies and work towards a Bachelor's degree; 2) The Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Bioinformatics would be for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to continue their studies and work toward a Bachelor's degree; 3) The Applied Associate of Science (A.A.S.) degree in Biotechnology would be a terminal two-year degree that would enable students to have skills necessary to work in a biotechnology laboratory; 4) A Certificate in Biotechnology would be available for students who currently hold a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in basic science but needs "hands on" experience in basic biotechnology techniques to increase their chances of employment; 5) A Diploma in Biotechnology would be available for students who currently hold a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree NOT in a scientific discipline. The diploma program would include core science courses as well as biotechnology techniques courses.
