Focus on Academics Workshop  Secondary vocational instructors meet with community college vocational instructors to discuss strategies to strengthen academic achievement in the science, technology, and math disciplines at the spring workshop hosted at Iowa Lakes Community College.

Infinity Scholars (Scholarship program Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math students)  This project will annually provide up to $4,000 in financial assistance, academic support, and career exploration to 30 full-time STEM transfer and related career-focused degree program majors. Internships and job shadow experiences have historically been reserved for upper-level undergraduate and career-focused students. Local industry partners have eagerly embraced the potential employment pool to be available at the end of the first project year. In addition, alignment of curricular competencies and strengthening articulations with neighboring transfer universities.

Infinity Scholars Academic Competition Day  Recruitment activities for this scholarship program include a Math Day Competition for high school juniors and seniors.

Math and Science Instructor Team Project  An academic summit will be held fall 2007 at the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory. A pilot group of 20 secondary teachers will participate in this professional development project and submit documentation as to strategies introduced and/or how pedagogical elements will be utilized in the classroom. Training sessions will focus on ways to increase student outcomes utilizing technology to increase student proficiency in the math and science disciplines. Integrating technology and constructivist learning strategies will relate specifically to Every Student Counts and Every Student Inquires curriculum and align with the competency-based curriculum focus of higher education.

NSF Biotechnology Curriculum Development and Dissemenation  Project activities will: 1) Provide professional development opportunities for secondary and community college instructors through web-based seminars and a summer institute. 2) Prepare students pursing life or agricultural science degrees for a seamless transition through multiple levels of education (secondary to community college to university) and/or successfully enter a dynamic workforce. 3) Provide industry with a trained cadre of biotechnicians. Results will be used to further identify science technology advancements and assist with prioritizing biotechnology curriculum and expansion of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) enrollments, including preservice teachers.

Sharing Best Practices -- Strategies to Strengthen Science Education  Science instructors attend an evening session of sharing best practices and ways to strengthen relevance connections for students and encourage continued enrollments in science and math courses in addition to the minimum requirements for high school graduation.
